I’m putting together some new activity kits for my kids. I hope to inspire you on things you can use to make an activity box or a boredom-busting kit for your kids. I’m changing up these activities every month or so. Sometimes I pull things that are in the back of the closet and sometimes I add something new. Either way, you are sure to be inspired to make your own kit or box for your kids!
When assembling, my goal is that everything has to fit in my box. Also, when I am assembling the box I do like to put things the kids can do individually and together.
Solo projects like the Snap Circuits Jr. have lasted us for like forever! It’s great for teaching them beginning circuitry, things fly and light up. It’s a great science toy. And it’s one of those items I can cycle out and every time I bring it back the kids are at a different stage and more independent and can tinker in more advanced stages, now without my help.
Next up, Multiplication. If you have younger kids look for books and activities at your child’s age level. Addition, Subtraction…you get the idea. But we’re at the multiplication level and I found these, Multiplication Book Fortune Tellers, like the old origami paper fortune tellers we used to make, but with math facts. I also added my go-to, Multiplication Match-Ups. They look like keys and there is a piece of thread to pull to match numbers and get the answer.
As for together, I picked up from Dollar Tree miniature versions of the card games “Dos Go!” and “Lowdown Go!” Go check to see if your Dollar Tree has them. Love them! (“Go!” is just the small-size versions.) And they are definitely worth it! I include a sandwich bag to help keep them together.
Craft Time! I’m doing this for February, so Valentine’s is coming. I went to Micheal’s and grabbed a few of their art projects. A Valentine’s Card Box.
And my box always must include some sensory items. The kids were really excited when they saw me pull these out, the Stretchy Fidgets. I also added Zipper Bracelet Fidgets.
Lastly, I added from my Christmas Favorite’s Video, our win, some Where’s Waldo books. It helps my children with visual scanning and busy fields, something that easily translates when trying to solve math problems or reading. Pretty sure we’ve all enjoyed these in our childhood at this point.
I have a quick reference list below and my YouTube video as well if that helps. But that’s it for my February Box.
